Video quality recommendations for video files uploaded to EMMS for ABR encoding
The Endavo platform generally encodes all uploaded video files into 4 standard renditions to support adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming to all Endavo devices, apps and players. We currently encode files to the following renditions (sizes) for ABR streaming: 1080p, 720p, 480p, 270p. It is important to note that the platform will only encode up to the highest quality of the original file (e.g., if 720p file is uploaded, we can only create 720p and lower renditions). We generally recommend uploading high definition (HD) 1080 p/i files with a minimum bitrate of 3200 kbps to accommodate successful video and audio encoding on the Endavo platform for optimal streaming quality.
File bitrate also affects encoding, so we recommend the following minimum bitrates for video and audio encoding:
- 1080p - minimum 3200 kbps; optimal 3600 kbps
- 720p - 2000 kbps
